How It All Started

BuitreSurf.com as a surf clothing company was first conceptualized in the late summer of 2007 over a few cold Tonas...

Tony Longobucco, owner of The Surf Sanctuary and Andrew Foster, Graphic Designer agreed that iBuitre! as a surf company was to be a project child worthy of turning into a reality.

Although the idea was there, the long awaited and deliberated final logo creation and thus the birth of iBuitre! was not until the spring of 2008. The actuality of creating and being the First Nicaraguan Surf Company was not in realized until much later.

The creation of iBuitre! was indeed a reaction to the complete lack of any other surf companies that are willing to step up and sponsor Nicaraguan events or surfers. The fact of the matter was the general response received from large surf companies "We don’t sell anything down there so, why should we do anything down there?"

Our goal is deliver a product that we create ourselves. Involve and sponsor local surfers. Help provide, organize and judge a stage for which Nicaraguan surfers to compete. Last but not least, help the local community and environment through donations and youth education.

BuitreSurf.com

Nicaragua is the second poorest nation in the Western hemisphere. We have taken it upon ourselves to try and help to make a difference in at least a few childrens lives.

About the Name

Buitre (bwee-tray) Spanish word for vulture...

The name was inspired by the local surf gang at Santana. The boys affectionately start to chant in unison "Buitre!, Buitre!" and caw like vultures…"ahhwwww, AAhhWWWW" towards anyone (namely Brazos) dropping in, back paddling and generally being ass clowns.

On another note- the term is not only used in the water… iBuitre! Is used to describe an overly confident, persistent male on the club scene of Nicaragua.

For example- if a guy is sweating lots of chicks in the bar, asking every girl for her phone number…then he is deemed a "buitre."
