Profile of a Buitre Surf

Tony could be considered one the world's most devoted surfers. It depends really...

If you count that every working second of his previous career was geared toward getting to the point where he could surf every day then sure. Or if you count that he convinced his wife (with their daughter of age nine at the time) to sell their house and move to the second poorest country in the western hemisphere then, maybe.

What really seals the deal for me is that he is completely stoked to paddle out even when conditions are what even the most wave starved Floridian would consider sub-par (after a minimun of four Tona's typically). No details, but lets just say waist high (this is where Wayne always pipes in and says, "at least it's head high on Tony!") and onshore for example.

But, don't let his size or his determination to paddle out out in the junk fool you. Tony is equally- if not a thousand times more stoked when the wave size and conditons come together. The bottom line is that he is absolutely stoked out of his mind and loves to surf everday.

Enough shit talk already- let's get straight to the point. Tony's backyard is overhead and firing a vast majority of the days. Meanwhile, you are sitting there behind your PC at some job pondering why you don't have the sack to do it like Tony.

Either way- rest assured that he is surfing. A lot. Doing monster-calf- fueled-nose-buried-slashes, getting pitted at the cyclop's wedge or trying to learn how to do airs. Getting his cutty on, and then as the waves fizzles or he loses motivation-a solid hang five (yes- on a shortboard...I don't know how its possible but, he does it) to face plant for good measure.

When he's not surfing, (which is not often) he is helping his family, friends, and the local community in ways that can only be described as completely selfless. Or more likey- sipping on a cold Toña and reminding some random bloke whose trip has come to an end how "reality is about to kick [them] square in the balls."
