Look out for Yubert...

his main problem is his big head. He's better than all his friends at surfing, and he knows it. For example, when asked when he was planning to get a job he simply remarked, "surfing is my job."

Once you get past that- is a smart, relaxed, cool grom that lives to surf. You'd probably be a bit cocky too if you were the little brother of the two best- and burliest surfers in town. The catch is that he has a lot to live up to. And as far as the his contest record goes, it's time for Yubert to step it up and start walking the walk.

It's been a lightning quick transformation for Yubert. As a tiny grom, he started learning on pieced together broken boards that traveling gringos left behind. Four short years later, Yubert is already blowing minds and he's only thirteen. Recent reports of switch stance barrel rides top the list, only confirming his potential talent. His fluid cutties and round house rebounds are reminscent of young child prodigies of the past.

Yubert has benefitted from the influence of speed, flow and power from older brother Mario. He has taken the bust a thrity-foot-high-upside-down fly away air a la Junior and is already experimenting with his own flips and spins. Most onlookers agree that Yubert is taking the characteristically great Martinez surfing to the next level. Yubert has added style. Heaps of style.

Clearly an natural in the water, in time quick lip flicks will become massive gouges. Playful beachbreak performances will ascend to the big, powerful reefs. Only he is in control of what happens next. One thing is for sure- we all want to see him blow up and live up to what everybody knows he is capable of.
